Chuck and I became first-time grandparents yesterday (9/5/2009) with the arrival of Kate MacKenzie Hanson (Son Eric, Daughter-in-law Chris). I was present for the birth. An awesome experience; one I will forever remember!

Chuck and I became grandparents again in 2013 with the arrival of Josh and Kerry's twin sons, Tanner and Zachary. Their middle names are after their two grandfathers.

We became grandparents for the 4th and final time with the birth of Ava Alexandra Hanson, born in 2015. Ava was a 31 week baby, weighing only 3.13 lbs and 16" long. She was a resident of the NICU for 31 days, and did amazingly well. In her three years on earth she has more than made up for it. She is our little spitfire.

Chuck and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary on July 21, 2013.

School Story:

Classmate Chuck Hanson and I married in 1973 after almost seven years of dating. We immediately left Seattle for Baltimore, Maryland so Chuck could pursue a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering. After two years we transferred to UC Davis so he could complete his degree. He was conferred a Ph.D. in 1978 and a month later Eric was born. Chuck was offered a job in Walnut Creek, CA by his former advisor from JH. Four days after Eric's birth we moved into our first home in Concord, California. Josh was born in 1982. In 1988 we purchased a brand new home in Walnut Creek, CA. We have been in Walnut Creek for thirty years this August. In 2001 we purchased a home in Morro Bay, CA (Central Coast; 90 miles north of Santa Barbara, because Josh was attending Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He served as resident manager and rented rooms to fellow students. Josh has long since graduated college, we rented the house out until 2015, and then took it back as a second home. We spend as much time there as we can, while the boys and their families visit as often as they can. Since both boys and their families live nearby we're hesitant to sell our WC house and move to MB permanently, although the idea is appealing and Chuck is pushing for it.

We have worked hard and life has been good to us. We are thankful for our life together.
