We received the following information on December 9, 2013 from Kathy who was married to Michael at the time of his death.

I was married to Mike in 1973 when he passed away from a motor cycle accident. He passed away on April 13, 1973, we buried him on his 23rd birthday. Our son was born June 29, 1973. Steve Gourd was our best man. I found this page while searching for Steve, but see he is now gone also. Hope this helps to fill in any blanks for anyone else who may have known Mike. You can contact me with anything else if you like. Kathy

For those who may have known them . Thanks again, Kathy

Wow! An alignment of meaningful coincidence......crossing paths. Seem to have a number of these synchronicity events in a lifetime going forward. May have been the last one in our class to see Mike.

Mike knew I worked for NOAA he later indicated. Early 1973 the NOAA Ship Oceanographer made a March day layover in Port Angeles to pick up last minute scientific gear and scientists for our big trip to South America Peru, Chile and its territory Easter Island. The away crew arrived early preparing for docking up to the pier. I was working below deck and get the quartermaster announcement over the com that I have a visitor awaiting. I am stunned whom can it be? As I arrived on deck the ship still moving in and the anchor lines in the process of being casted and ground tackled. I focused in and see to my shocking surprise Mike standing there in the distant with interest of what’s unfolding around him. Amazing! I yell out Mike, Mike waving my arms as our eyes meet he has the biggest smile of joy that anyone can feel welcomed in such a seemingly remote area and circumstance. We agree to meet after work. It is evening as we finish catching up over a couple of Rainier brewskis we then walk down around to his father’s shop Mike proudly shows off his black motorcycle which, only to learn much later that it would take him into the sunset.

Mike, you are forever young, I hear your laughter and kindred spirits.
