Please welcome our newest classmate on the website Ginger Persons Colombo.

The Australia trip.

If we decide to go to Australia via a sail boat, we may want to devote a large block of time for our trip. I had a great uncle who sailed out of Port Townsend on a square rigged ship in 1914. They were 120 days out of PT when they caught their first glimpse of Australia. However a typhoon came up and blew them off shore. It took them another 30 days to make landfall. By my arithmatic that is 5 months. With stop overs in Hawaii, Tahaiti, Bali, Guam, Samoa, Philipines and a few other garden spots we may need to set aside a year.

Susan,

Great pictures of "Key to My Heart". I can see why you are so proud of her. She is quite the beauty. Do we get a current photo of you??

I read in the paper that the water level in Perth's dam/s is/are rising. Is that the same for Harvey Water's dams? Curious minds need to know. I may need to use it in an opening gambit at lunch sometime this next week. It is amazing what information crosses the local's table at the restaurant.

G'day

Lyn McKinney (McGraw)

Good morning folks-
I am so very excited our trip to Austrailia has taken off. Please let me know the date of departure so I can put in my vacation notice (with a possibility of not returning). Nancy, I haven't been holding out on you...I just know where to look for information. One of my favorite sites we use at work to get more info on people is www.zabasearch.com it has lists of pert-near everybody.

Susan - my household is in an uproar. Chris fell in love with that college but I think he is too old, Te'a also fell in love with it and texted her boyfriend in California that she was moving to Austrailia, to which I got a frantic text message to call him ASAP. I told both of them they could stay home and I would move there!

John - Plane, boat, raft, (I found out in the 60's that Volkswagens float)..I say we should start building another ark...how are you at shipbuilding? And when we get there, you can be our interpreter. That should be a hoot. No telling what kind of things you'll be asking for on our behalf.

Update 911 - with vacations galore, I have been working non-stop along with getting ready for our DUI booth at the Evergreen Fair (we finally got some cool 911 handouts at the 11th hour), also I've got a gal retiring after 30 years on the 31st so I have been frantically putting together her last day potluck, notifying all our local police agencies to come, and designing a carryall jean bag with all the police agency patches and various appliques I made covering her life and time here at SNOPAC. Generally sewing is therapy for me, but not when I have so much else going on, then you toss in armed robberies and a couple homicides and you get pretty distracted.

Blessings to all and stay safe
Lyn

A trip down memory lane.

45 years ago today 8/21/09 the Beatles appeared in Seattle for the first time. I am curious. Who from our class went to the concert, the airport or the Edgewater Inn to see them? If I remember correctly, Donna Amira was a big fan at the time. I also remember poo pooing them as a long haired flash in the pan. Ah, another prediction gone wrong.

Hey Lyn:

Thanks for the zaba search engine. I will probably use it along with all of the others that I use to track our missing classmates. I found one problem with it. It didn't show me where I am today. So, it has been 7 years since I lived at the address that is listed on zaba. So, I am wondering how long you have to be somewhere before it finds you. Thanks for the tip.

Hey John:

I was not at any of the venues to see the Beatles. I know better now but back then I was really out of it.

John,

I went to the Beatles concert with a date. Not such a good idea was that one. All the girls screamed so much I didn't hear a word they sung or anything else for a week afterwards. And yes my date also screamed along with the rest of the maddening crowd. Plus who could possibly match up to John, Paul, George or Ringo afterward taking a girl to that concert. Like I said a bad idea for a date.

Mark,

I know that one. It seemed like a good idea at the time. You could have been Burt Reynolds or Paul Newman and got the same treatment.

Do you remember her name? We don't need to know but we want to know if your memory is working on all cylinders.

John,

Yes I remember her name. It was Cheryl Horton. Cheryl attended Sammamish High. Now if I could only remember where I put my reading glasses.

Susan,

No, I did not attend the Neil Diamond concert. I was still in that shy and bashful stage of my life. Boy am I glad those days are gone. I have, however, learned in the last few years that the song "Sweet Caroline" was written for Caroline Kennedy.

I read where your winter Down Under ,this year, is more like our summer. Warmest winter tmperatures on record.

Are you still planning on making the "Race Round" in Kalgoorlie? I understand that it is about a 12 hour drive from your home. Sounds as if it is rather wild and wooly with all those miners on a three day bender. Sort of like the Omak Stampede meets the Kentucky Derby with a loggers rodeo on the side.

Hey all,

I have heard from Donna. She didn't mention the Beatles. However the more I have thought of this, I believe she used the words "Aren't they just dreamy". Remember this is 1964. Of course I responded with something denoteing their resemblance to the Shaggy Dog.

Where in the H is Hoodsport? At the beginning of course, otherwise it would be Oodsport.

I have had some inquireries as to Hoodsport's location. It is at the southern end of Hood Canal on Hwy 101. It is nestled at the water's edge at the base of the Olympic Mountains. It is 15 miles north of Shelton and 35 miles north of Olympia. The town/village proper has a population of about 2-250. If you have ever been to Lake Cushman, you have been to Hoodsport, as you must go through town to get to Cushman.

I have posted some photos of last years snow and an aerial photo of town at my profile.

Hello everyone,

I am finally home from Alaska. I have to say that it was a beautiful summer, lots of dry and sunny weather. Also, lots of interesting wildlife encounters.
I love the idea of sailing to Australia, you can count me in. We just need to find a comfortable large sailing vessel. The ship I work on would probably be pretty interesting to cross an ocean in, and it would certainly break the bank for fuel costs.
By the way John, I did make it to the Beatles concert in Seattle. I was so far from the stage it could have been anyone down there singing. I decided to watch the crazy screaming crowd instead. The following year I won a radio contest to see them in Portland. I had third row seats and it was amazing, they were great.
Anyway, now off to cruise the Columbia River until November, then I actually get a couple of months vacation.

Take care all, I enjoy reading the forum....

Wow!

At least two from the class who attended the first Beatle's concert in Seattle. It's intent was to be a fun night, and now forty-five years later it is a noted day in history.

Changes....

I was in Seattle yesterday and drove by the Lakewood Communtity Clubhouse, site of some of our past reunion functions. Anyway the house across from the front door of the clubhouse has been demolished.

And then, somethings never change. Driving up 57th in Rainier Beach all the little girls and their moms were streaming into the dance studio (Mrs. Hansen's ?). Start of another year of ballet lessons. Seems to me that a number of the girls from our class began their dancing careers there. Sandi Smith? I believe was one. I know a number of others took their ballet lessons at the afore mentioned clubhouse.

Mark Weaver.........Nice update to your profile. Great poem. I can see why it is a favorite. Mine run more to the "Cremation of Sam McGee" and the "Malemute Saloon" by Robert Service.

Jacqueline Lee.........Which bridge in Seattle are you at? Inquiring minds need to know. That way when we hear on the news that a sail boat has been pile driven into the ship canal, we may know that another Franklin alum has made the news.

Ric Rivera.......What the heck is Photogrammetry Digital Data Aquisition? More importantly, can you be arrested for doing that? I know, I know. It is on a need to know basis and I don't have level 9 security clearance.

Dorthy Rodes...........Will be appearing at Eagan's Ballard Jam House on October 7th, starting at 7PM. It is a great little venue on Market street with good on street parking. Cover is $10.00, the food is good and reasonably priced.

I will be in Seattle all next week doing a project for one of my long time customers, who will accept nothing but the best. I hope to make it to Dorthy's perfomance. Maybe we can have a little Franklin contingent. Betty, Donna, Debbie, Karen, Ric, Tony, et al???

John,

I really like Robert Sevice's poetry too. He always wrote about the rugged tales of Alaska and the Yukon. Having lived in Alaska I can really relate to his works. I,however, wasn't familar with the Malamute Saloon. I tried to find it on-line but couldn't. I think maybe you are thinking of, The Shooting Of Dan McGrew, in which the Malamute Saloon is mentioned.

I wish I could be there to see and hear Dorothy sing on the the 5th. Just a footnote to that, it is Dorothy's birthday that day too. It would be nice if you could get a few old classmates together for that occassion.

Also since you are going to be in Seattle next week you may want to consider going to the Bel Canto choir's reunion concert on Sunday the 11th at 2:00 PM. I believe it is at Franklin but I will check on that for you. There is a $5 donation being requested for the performance which will go to the school's music program. The old choir director Mr. Koehler is going to be there. I know the old choir members have been excidedly practicing very hard for this wonderful reunion. Again I wish I could be there for that as well.

Mark.........Right you are about "The Shooting of Dan McGrew". Merely a case of CRS rearing its ugly head, or a case of having spent too many hours at the Malamute Saloon or others of its ilk. I will be long home in Hoodsport by the time the benefit is being played at Franklin on the 11th.

Dorthy's performance is on Wednesday the 7th of October.

Wow y'all. I heard a rumor that the message forum was alive again, so I got around to reading ... and reading.

I went to the Beatles concert. I remember my dad asking me why I was going to a concert that I wouldn't hear the music. "Dad, I have their records." Funny to recall that, so unlike where I come from now. Though it was a thrill to be there and I knew Paul was looking at me half a Coliseum away, the crowd was frightening ... 15,000 overly wrought teenagers. Yowser. Yeah, must admit I stood on my chair and screamed.

Hey, John, thanks for promoting my gig this Wednesday. Love to see you. Regardless, it's great to read your quirky missives herein. I'm doing the Bel Canto thing too. What a cool trip that is! I'm singing tenor - fun. And I'm singing with Tony at the dinner Friday.

OK, I've been at this forum long enough. Work to do. Next time I'll go check the profiles etc. that are mentioned. Nice to connect in this surreal fashion.

The Bel Canto reunion was GREAT to say the least. We raised almost $5000 for the school and over 100 people showed up for the Friday night reunion. DR. Koehler looked great for being 76 years old and so did his lovely wife Loretta. It really brought us back to why we sang and who we were . I very diverse group of people. They talked about how the choir brought together all races, all ethnic groups, all religions, and all differnt financial upbringings. It made us proud of Franklin and what we had . A lot of tears during this weekend. I had a chance to spend a day with Dr. Koehler, pretty funny man. Gary Locke came in from Washington DC, afrank Raines was there, and many more folks. It was just a great time for all and the memories were flying. We were on the news a few times, in the paper and of course on Facebook and youtube." target="_blank">youtube. The concert was SRO and we were a little shocked but happy. If you didnt make it , you missed something, even if you werent in the choir . i think this is the link to one of our songs. there are more on youtube

Bel Cantos.........Nice to know that they can still fill a concert facility. Kudos to all involved.

Keith.....No news on Ted's address. I was hoping for another 30% drop in my property value, oh well hope springs eternal.

McDonalds fans........According to The Western Austrailian the furthest point from a McDonalds in the lower 48 is between Meadow and Glad Valley in South Dakota. One must travel 107 miles in one direction or 145 miles in the other direction to find the golden arches. They didn't give any numbers for Dag's or Zesto's.
