Just a reminder. The always amazing and ever lovely Dorothy Rodes will be appearing at Tula's tomorrow night 09/17/08. Me and the wife unit will be in attendance and perhaps one of my girfiends.

For any out there who may have taken a wrong turn at reform school and figure that Mac will be away from home, please note the following. I have borrowed my friend Hagrid's three headed mastiff for the evening. Fluffy has been informed that he may eat anything he catches.

Dateline Seattle..............

The dulcet sounds of one of Seattle's great jazz singers were to heard wafting from Tula's tonight in Belltown. Dorothy Rodes did herself proud this evening. She played to a standing room only crowd. Even to the none jazz patrons it was plain to see that that her talents were greatly appreciated. Dorothy Rodes, easy on the eyes and easy on the ears.

Vicki Dunham, her sister and Vivian Altaras were in attendance. Tony Mamon stepped in at the start of the second set.

Hey, gotta go. The wife unit had a Cosmopolitain tonight and has reverted back to the "Amazon Temptress".

Nuff said.............John

John MacLeod, thanks for the comments on the pictures, I just wish everyone would post some. I won't be able to come to the reunion due to work related issues, but will be looking foward to the pictures posted afterwards.
I'm wondering if our classmates are even aware of this venue as it almost appears to be the John MacLeod message forum, not that I'm complaining as you are keeping everyone informed.Keep up the good work!
Thanks

Dorothy...Thanks once again for the great performance last night and accept my apologies for my talkative friends. Boy, your sister sure jumped my stuff after they left. I guess that what sisters are for, having two of my own.

Don....Too bad you won't be able to make the reunion. Drop a line if you think you might be in the NW. Coffee or lunch might be in order. John Hine and I will drink to your good health at the reunion. As long as we might be jeopardizing our health to toast yours, we were wondering if we could send you the bill. We did last time but 123 Your Street, Anytown USA came back as not a working address.

Quakers at large...........My goal is to try and draw you into the message forum. Send in a hiya from time to time.

At oh dark thirty this morning I had a close encounter with the Flavors mobile at Renton Ave. and Bangor St. I knew it was Trollis as soon as I picked myself up, dusted off and read his bumper sticker. "If you don't like the way I drive, stay off the sidewalk". It was either that or his company name on the side of the van.

Hey, if you are coming in from out of town, be sure to cruise Martin Luther King Way. It has been reborn as the light rail corridor into Seattle. Unbelivable. However Smitty's Used Cars is still at the corner of Eddy Street.
At least one of our classmates worked there for a short time after school and he sold at least one car to another classmate.

Thought I might follow Don's advice and wish all of you attending the Reunion a good time! Sounds like the organisers have done a terrific job. I am really looking forward to the reports and photos. I have enjoyed reading classmates' profiles, trying to remember names and faces. Amazing how the memory struggles after 40 years.
Thanks, also, to everyone who has answered my messages and been kind enough to send them to me as well. It's been great!

Cheers! Susan

(Has John MacLeod always been such an amusing fellow?)

Seriously, I did not pay John MacLeod for his promotion or effusive (though mostly accurate) praise. That said, John, I am truly grateful for you showing up with the "Amazon Temptress" and for the review, and for single-handedly keeping this forum alive. And thanks to Vic, Viv and Tony for coming out. I hope my sister wasn't obnoxious; it wasn't my turn to watch her.
I'm looking forward to connecting with classmates these next two evenings.
Carry on, Dorothy

Jorgene Torbenson (Wasson)

Hello all
Ive just posted 3 new pictures. The one with Fred Westergaard and Walt Rice is PRICELESS, from the look on Fred's face to Walt's half done zipper.
The ballet pic's were taken at Greta Walkers School of Ballet at the Lakewood Community Club. Lianne Given, Diane Ziegler, Maren Erikson and Bonnie Day, are the only ones I recognize. Is one of them Susan Marino??? These were taken about 1955 or so..........
I also have the Graham Hill "tolo", all 4 pages of it and will bring it to the reunion along with above pic's and some with Doreen Cohen, the Fererra girls, Ann Taylor, Chris Lough and a few more.
Am sooooo looking forward to 'school' tomorrow night. Wish that I felf that way during 64-68!!!!! Guess we live and learn.

Jorgene,

Went to your profile before seeing that you had posted to the messages. Having grown up with you and those two yahoos in the photo, I picked them out right away. Joey and Phil Cohen lived in the house to the right of Dick's. Looking forward to seeing you..........John

Okay, here's the play by play. I've about got all the tile grout out from under my fingernails. Clipped my ear hairs and trimmed my nose feathers into a rather stylish fu-man-chu. Knocked back a couple of Ensures with a Geritol back. The Hush Puppies have been dusted and buffed for the occasion. I'm ready to hit the town and watch the Quakers muzzle the Bulldogs (Garfield). Night one of the event of the century.

Wish me luck..............John

FRANKLIN DEFEATS GARFIELD
69-to-43

The Franklin Quakers sent the Garfield Bulldogs into the swirling depths of defeat tonight at the Franklin High gymnasium. Franklin took advantage of the home court. Scored first and scored often. Like a cat toying with a mouse the Quakers let the Bulldogs creep close in the scoring, only to swat them down with authority. Nile DeCuire was the first to score for the home team. Followed quickly by Trollice Flavors and Charles Oliver. There was some pretty fancy ball handling. Criss cross down the court, through the legs and behind the back. Whether by design or accident this reporter is not sure. The roar of the crowd was deafening or perhaps the deaf crowd was roaring. Either way the results were the same. Star players of the past were on the injured reserve. Tracy Dahlby, Marty Hill and Greg Dean were in attendance.

In an interview after the game Charles Oliver stated that individual statistics were of no importance. The fact that we won was all that mattered.

After the game we adjouned to the second gymnasium on the north side of the old gymnasium for food and conversation. The years seemd to melt away. Things finally closed down about 10:00 PM. The "Reunion Committee" has once again outdone itself. Tomorrow night is round two of the great event.

More to follow.............John

So, who was there last night?? Well just about everybody. At least two who had never been to a reunion. Theresa Smith was in from California and John Jiminez made it in from Skyway. I had the chance to make a long over due apology to Theresa. 40 years is a long time to worry about something. I feel like I'm in an episode of "My Name Is Earl".

Wayne Henry hadn't made a reunion since 1988. Freddie Eslava tried to hide his name tag, but his handsome good looks were his undoing. Clifford Barnes was in his element. Annie Saperstein still has her beauty and curly hair. For that matter, all the Franklin women are still strides ahead of the rest of the nation in beauty and grace. The guys on the other hand are, well, still just the guys.

Hey, gotta go. "She who must be obeyed" has just shot the withering look of why aren't you working.

Over and out..................John

Thank you so much for attending the reunion this weekend. It was wonderful to see all of you. I hope you had a good time and invite you to keep in touch.

Please help us find the remaining 100+ so we can add them to the roster.

Again, it was a pleasure to see you and spend time together. I wish you all the very best. Stay well.

Well, the Quakers once again partied the night away. Friends connected with those they hadn't seen in decades.
Let me see. Some of those who showed for the first time ever were Nick Perensovich, Michlene Hoag, Lyn McKinney, Theresa Smith, Jorgene Torbenson. I am sure there were others, but we only had 4 hours or so and the joint was jumping. I know for a fact that many who showed had to force themselves to come and once they got there, they knew it was going to take an act of congress to get them to leave. A lot of connections went back to Hawthorne, Whitworth, John Muir, Graham Hill, Brighton. Like Ray (Bud) Talbott said "When we were growing up it seemed like there were 300 kids on every block." Yes, Bud is still married to his jr. high sweet heart Sherry Gordon. I can only assume that she still hasn't had her eyes checked. (Insert rim shot).

Catch this. Mr. Maestas, Mr. Fugi and Mr. Iverson were also there.

Now I know that Virginia Descargar took about a googleplex of pictures. That is 10 with about 30 zeroes after it. My understanding is that they will be posted here soon. However if put under oath, I will put on my best "Sgt. Shultz" and claim to have seen nothing, heard nothing and definitely know nothing.

Tom (Tommy) Johnson gave a very nice invocation, thanking
all for showing and taking time to reflect on those who are no longer with us.

If you have any questions, be sure to post them. For those who still can't bring yourselves to attend, please note that the statute of limitations has expired on the library fines and if you took my lunch money I have long since forgotten.

Not having served on the committee this time I do not know for sure who all was involved, but I know that thanks haved been earned by many. Dave Azose, Donna Amira, Karen Kummerfeldt, Steve Condiotty, Nancy Raetzlof, Bob Temples, Sara Thompson, Sharon Lee, Debbie Kashino, Valerie Maekawa, Terry Escobar, June Eguchi, Brian Lewis, Leonard Piha, Charles Olliver, Trollice Flavors and an ongoing cast of thousands. This member of the class of 68 salutes you and gives his heartfelt thanks for putting forth a stellar and outstanding reunion.

Just a question. A certain lovely young member of the class wants to know who opened the door to the restroom and ,left it opened, exposing her to the class in a private moment. I guess some things never change. Sounds like Sharples when occasionally the girls would shove one or two of the other girls out into the hallway in their underwear. Us guys lived for those all to brief moments.

I just have to jump in here because I'm having such fun reading all this. John, I don't recall being in a creative writing class with you, but you should have gotten an A+. Thanks for keeping this going.

And thanks to everyone who attended the reunion events. What a thrill it was to see you all. We truly had a special group of people at our school. I'm only sorry that there wasn't enough time to visit with more of you. Please keep those Profiles updated. I am "hooked" on reading what you write and seeing those photos.

John I want to add to other's comments about your great messages. You are keeping me in stitches. I would like to echo Karen's and others comments about how great it was to see everyone at the reunion. I think all that came had a great time.

Our plan is to keep this website active so classmates can continue to connect. So continue to update your profile and add pictures.

We hope to post pictures to the website or to a link where people can add pictures from the two nights events.

I would like to personally thank all those who helped make the reunion a success.

A class wide e-mail has been sent.

I want to thank all of the class of 68 for allowing me to "crash" your reunion. I had a wonderful time, and it was great to see all of you old people . I do have to say though, you all looked great. The years have been good to you. To the team that put it on, you did a great job, coming from someone who has personally helped and put on 5 reunions so far for my class.. I would love to hear from anyone that feels like writing or calling. I also hope that you will invite me to your next reunion. Again, thank you all for a job well done . Tony Volchok.
ps. youre invited to ours:)

are you going to post pictures of the reunion night ?

I am SO glad I attended the reunion. I didn't connect with everyone I might have I know, yet it was heartful to schmooze with those I did.
I gave my card to several people who were going to email me and I haven't heard from one of them. Was it something I said? OK, I'm not taking it personally; could it be it's not all about me?
This is another shameless self-promotion; the reunion dovetailed nicely with my comin' out!
Anyway, below is information and an invitation with no expectation. My email address is further down. Please feel free to use it, knowing I'll add you to my distribution list unless you tell me not to.
;-)

My thanks to those who have let me know that my oddball humor is appreciated. I will give the cliff note version of those who may dispute this.

Most every girl I went to grade school with. There is at least one who still gives me the look, as to say, don't even try it. I got the look this weekend and needless to say I didn't go there. Gotta love it, she got my number early on.

I only went to Whitworth for two years but at least 4 teachers and the pricipal will question my humor. Including the dreaded Mrs. Carvonan and her stupid "Pick up Scrappy Doodle". Dragged me across the lunchroom more than once.

Grade two I must have an off year. Came back with a vengence 3rd through 6th. Even today when I hear my last name called I answer "Yeah, I know, out in the hall".

Jr. High were quiet years and on into High School. That is until my senior year. Spent a fair amount of time explaining myself out in the hallway once again. I suppose I could have gone on to a career in politics. Instead of the hallway it would have more likely been before a senate hearing. No sweat. Hey, once you go up against Mrs. Carvonan everything else is a piece of cake.

Remember. If you live long enough you get old. Growing old is not an option but growing up is.

Thanks for the imput..............John

Dorothy - it has only been 3 days, hasn't it? Give us a break! We're old people now, it takes us a while to remember things. (Also, maybe we're a little bit afraid you'll try to sell us insurance! AAAck!) It was nice to see you and some of the gang again and chat with you. You can definitely put me on the list. I plan to come see/hear you on the 7th.

PS: Good to talk with you too John. I also have been totally enjoying your off the wall sense of humor on these posts.

To all that attended the reunion; I am so honored to have been in your presence. After some time of documenting the memorial list, seeing the faces of those still here with a few years on them struck my heart. Beautiful ladies and handsome men with confidence and presence about them have shown us all in a new light. Some say old…..no way in hell! Mature, sophisticated, and full of life. That is what I saw. We are the sum of forty years of life after high school. Four decades of this world that we all have contributed to. We stepped out in 1968 to set a mark and look at what we have done each in their own way. We became the next generation, we watch men land on the moon, we said our prayers when Kennedy held his against the Soviets and when he was killed, we watch issues we saw fought over become law, wars come and go, and loves gained and lost. A million historical notes have been recorded in our presence. Yet for all of this……fond memories of those we spent our school days with at a time when we were too shy to approach for a date, too nervous to ask a teacher for help, too confident to admit a mistake, too full of ourselves to share with others. However, we found a common bond where all students of any race, creed, religion, financial status, or heritage felt part of a whole! We are the might Quakers of 68!

If I feel honor to share this time with you; it is because I know the statesmen, mothers, soldiers, grandparents, business leaders, nurses, homemakers, spouses, and individuals you have become. Thank you all for sharing this moment of time with us all!! May we all be blessed to see each other again in the near future whether tomorrow or ten years hence!
