Synapse sparks.............or jogs to the memory cells.  Coming back from Portland yesterday Gene Chandler's "Dule of Earl" came on the radio.  Yeah, yeah an oldies but moldies listener.  Well, anyway it brought John Dunham to mind.  That was his favorite song in the summer of '62.  Me on my JC Higgins, John on his Raleigh 3-speed and Walt on some unknown behemoth, named "Rattlin Bones".  Riding around and John singing Duke of Earl.

At the same time a vehicle merges onto I-5 towing a Wooldrige Boat.  Well..............that just happens to be Anne Hugus's married name.  The family has been making boats in Seattle since 1915 and Anne's husband of 35-6 years happens to be it's current CEO.

Just random occurances putting some sort of irrational order to a cluttered mind.

Susan.........On that trip up I-5 yesterday we passed a bunch of Aussies.  Now the question is, how did I know this.  Well, it didn't take a rocket scientist to read the banner on the back of their motorhome.  "Please don't shoot us.  We're a bunch of Australians on tour in the US.  We don't know where we are going, but we're making record time".  Sounds like some refugees from Warawaraup, WA.

John............Gone walkabout

Keith...........as in Gorze.

Couple of my friends returned from fishing your river the other day.  They drifted the Yakima with guide Mark Shimazu.  They caught about thirty fish and released them all.  Perhaps Mr. Fishon can enlighten us to the finer art of fishing and the Yakima.  The way I hear it, is that work is for those who don't know how to fish.  I generally catch my fish down on the Costco.

Came across a copy of the Franklin Tolo newspaper (June 3, 1966) in one of my annuals the other day.   This was just prior to the Bel Cantos taking Europe by storm

Four AM suprise............As many of you know I get up fairly early   Well today was no different.  Coffee was brewing,TV was on, flipping through the channels, when much to my suprise I spot one of our classmates on an infomercial.  Ned Olsoe was giving testimonial, along with his wife, as to how well an anti-snoring sleep aid had worked for him.  Now either Ned looked like a 62 year old man in high school, or the years and miles have been good to him.  Spotted him right off.

The Zzzzz's have it.................

John:

Here are the pictures from the Trip to Puerto Peñasco.

This is what we started with.  The original shed in the background will receive an addition.

Doing the slab foundation.

The walls are going up.

The roof structure is going on.

Nailing down the roofing.

A view from the roof.

The house across the street.

Giving the family the key to their new house.

The team and the family.

Thanks for the info John.  I have posted Tony's info on the in memory page.  I went back and looked, and the last post we had from Debra Moore was in October.  We will need to do research on her.  That post indicated that her sister had passed.

Yes, Debra Ann (Moore) Murga passed on May 27, 2012 in Baldwin Hills, CA.  From her postings I know that she had suffered from diabetes and non-alcoholic scirrosis.

Susan..........Thanks for all the info on Black Caviar.  I have not heard one word of it in the media over here.  Always interesting to get news from out of the US sources.  Amazing what doesn't make it here, or shows up several months after the fact.

Nancy.........Nice shots of the work party and home remodel.

Have your temperatures attenuated themselves?  Of the lower 48 states, Washington was the only one to buck the national trend.  June here was the 6th wettest on record and we set some new low temps. for the month.  Not sure whether if I'm bragging or complaining...............

No John, it hasn't cooled off.  The overnight low was 89.  Thanks for the lead on Debra Moore.  I did online research and managed to find a photo to post in the In Memory section.  We are losing classmates much too quickly around here.

Attention Patches Pals.............Julius Pierpont Patches (aka JP), Mayor of the City Dump has passed away.  His alter ego Chris Wedes had suffered with blood cancer for the last 8 years.  He was 84.  One of Seattle's great characters...............

We're having a heat wave....a northwest heat wave.  Mid to high 90's, two days in a row.  Right around the 30 day mark since we had rain.  Cue the northwest mantra "We sure could use some rain".  Won't be too long before we cue up the other mantra "We sure could use some sun".  It's part of the Goldilocks Syndrome.  Too hot, too cold, too wet, not hot enough, not cold enough or not wet enough.  Most likely we'd complain if we got hung with a new rope.

All the news that is questionable to print..................Snooki had a boy and Jersey Shore is canceled.  Sure didn't see that one coming................."Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" out polled the convention coverage in the overnight ratings.  Don't know if I will be able to reconcile that in my mind..............Mercer Street is now two way after a 44 year (1968) run as a one way street.  Statistics and engineering in action or a reinvention of the wheel? ................First August on record for Seattle without a trace of rain.  Sure could use some, well maybe a little, perhaps at night between 1 and 4 AM.  Oh, heck, savor the moment because the 40 days and 40 nights will be here soon enough....................Last night we had the first "Blue Moon" since 2009.  Next one will be in July of 2015.  For those of us who are astronmically challenged, a blue moon is a second full moon in one month.  Thank you Mr. Science.

Oh for the days when all we had to worry about was...................will Theodore Cleaver aka "The Beaver" ever graduate from the 4th grade????????????truly how smarmy can Eddie Haskell be?????????will Gilligan and crew ever be rescued??????????????will Dobie Gillis ever marry Zelda???????????????does Maynard G Krebbs ever get a job???????????  Maybe, I emphasize maybe Maynard did get a job after entering the whitless protection program.  Did you ever notice how he and Gilligan look alike?

Just rambling.................

Okay, the statute of limitations has expired.......................  You can fess up that you attended the "Sky River Rock Festival and Lighter Than Air Fair"  in Sulton, on this weekend in 1968.  It's too late for your folks ground you.

The following bands and performers  were in attendance....Big Mama Thorton, Joe Cotton, Country Joe and the Fish, Richard Pryor, Dino Valenti, Byron Pope, It's a Beautiful Day, Peanut Butter Conspiracy, Alice Stuart Thomas, the Youngbloods, New Lost City Ramblers, Juggarnaut, Easy Chair and The Grateful Dead.  Tickets cost $ 6.00 (in advance) for the entire 3 days or $ 8.00 at the gate.  About 20,000 people attended.  Rumor has it that some even paid.  The bands played steady for 18 hours each day.   It rained.  It got muddy.  Clothes were discarded and dang it the northwest had a real rock festival.

I'm pretty sure there were a few Franklin grads in attendance.

Connie Messmer (Hennessy)

Mel Sielke, my husband for the past eight years, passed away from complications of COPD on September 8, 2012 which was a service-connected illness that dated back to 1960.  Even Hospice RNs were amazed because it seemed he was getting better -- not nearing death. We were even planning a trip to Seattle for a cruise to Alaska before the end of the cruise season 2012.

If, for some reason, you're feeling less than love for your relatives (especially spouses, kids and parents) try your best to get past it because you never really know when it's their time (or yours) to leave this world to enter the next.

Please, attempt to mend fractured relationships within your family..a big hug and soft words can go a long way to lessen the load and give comfort when the time comes and you're left to pick up the pieces.

To each of you my warmest regards.

Nancy...........

Broken arm???

If my memory serves me correctly I seem to recall that you had retired from the professional arm wrestling circuit.  My guess is that you may have taken up amateur calf roping or bull dogging to fill your spare time.

Hope you have speedy recovery.  Injuries like yours are such a pain in the sit down at our age.

John
